Origin and Mission

The first “Band of Brothers” event took place on November 10, 1999 when retired Marine Thomas A. Richards and former Marine Joseph M. Preis celebrated the 224th Marine Corps Birthday at Il Fornaio, in Irvine, California.  That evening, Tom and Joe discussed organizing a larger gathering of Marines and friends of Marines to commemorate the glory of our Corps.  After sharing this concept with Randy McMahon and Jack Mattson, the current “Soldiers of the Sea, Band of Brothers” organization was born and there has been a Soldiers of the Sea, Band of Brothers Marine Corps Birthday Ball every year since.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between the Southern California Business and the Marine Corps Communities by promoting Corps values, fostering patriotism and promoting service to our Nation and communities; To promote Marine Corps’ esprit de corps and camaraderie; and To facilitate and coordinate gatherings of Marines and friends of our Corps to commemerate the Marine Corps Birthday in pursuit of the forgoing aims.
